MHW Wins Appeal on Severe Bicycle Injury

MHW partners Ken Hoffman and Jay Mitchell were successful in winning an appeal for a client who was severely injured when the front fork of her bicycle fractured. The 1st District appellate court issued an opinion affirming the trial court decision finding that the court had personal jurisdiction over a Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer who was distributing its product in Illinois through a wholly owned subsidiary.

The Taiwanese company argued that it was not subject to suit in the United States by virtue of its use of the subsidiary company to distribute their bicycles.
